Quick answer

Half of this theory is on the page, and half of it isn't.

  • On the page: in chapter 1197, Sanji tells Zoro to be Luffy's sword and says he'll be the shield. The magazine calls it the resolve of the two wings.
  • Not in the manga: a rule that Nika "awakens further" when two such allies are in place. No chapter states one.

THEORY. This is a reading circulating among Japanese fans after chapter 1197, checked against the manga. Chapter 1197 is PRIMARY — MANGA VERIFIED: we read it on Shonen Jump+. The Harley passage is CHAPTER-REFERENCED: chapter 1136, cited from Japanese coverage. No leaks.

What the theory says

The version going around Japanese YouTube this week runs like this:

  1. Chapter 1197 ends with Sanji's line: Zoro is Luffy's sword, Sanji is his shield.
  2. Zoro has Conqueror's Haki. Sanji may have just shown it too.
  3. Elbaf has an old text, the Harley, that talks about Nika.
  4. So when both "wings" are in place, Luffy's Nika power goes a step further.

Steps 1 and 3 are real. Step 2 is half confirmed. Step 4 is the jump.

On the page

  • 1197: Sanji tells Zoro to be Luffy's sword, and says he'll be the shield
  • 1197: the closing caption calls it the resolve of the two wings
  • 1136: the Harley calls Nika a hero who came so the world wouldn't break, or a destroyer who broke everything
  • 1136: Nika appears when the world greatly changes shape, so those in power fear him

The sword and the shield (chapter 1197)

PRIMARY — MANGA VERIFIED. The last page of chapter 1197 has Sanji speaking to Zoro, who isn't there:

「お前はルフィの…「剣」になれ…!!」 You be Luffy's "sword".

「おれがあいつの…「盾」になる!!!」 I'll be his "shield".

The second line lands on the kick that breaks Killingham's helmet. The closing caption calls it the resolve of the two wings.

The same chapter backs it up. Zoro's T-shirt on the title page carries an Old Irish line about a battle-shield and a sword. We broke that down in Theory Radar after 1197.

What the Harley says about Nika (chapter 1136)

CHAPTER-REFERENCED. In chapter 1136, 「太陽を待つ国」 (The Land Waiting for the Sun), the old giant Jarul explains the Harley, Elbaf's holy text. It is written in an old language, and much of it has never been read.

The part about Nika gives him two faces:

「世界が壊れぬ様に現れた英雄か　全てを壊した破壊者か」 A hero who appeared so the world would not break, or a destroyer who broke everything.

What else the passage says, in short:

  • Nika appears when the world greatly changes shape.
  • That is why those in power fear Nika's appearance.
  • By the Harley, the world has already broken twice, and Nika is recorded both times.

This is the panel the theory leans on. It is the strongest piece of Nika lore in the Elbaf arc.

What it doesn't contain:

  • No condition for Nika's power to grow.
  • No companions, no sword, no shield.
  • Nothing about two allies at Nika's side.

Why the "awakening" step doesn't hold yet

1. Luffy has already awakened. Gear 5 is the awakening of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, from chapter 1044. No chapter since has shown or named a stage beyond it.

2. The Harley ties Nika to the world, not to his friends. By the passage, Nika shows up when the world changes shape. The trigger it names is the times, not the crew.

3. Luffy has pushed the Nika label away. In chapter 1192, told that his form is the "god" Elbaf has waited for, Luffy shouts that he doesn't care: Nika, Joy Boy, and now Roger on top.

4. Sanji says "Luffy's", not "Nika's". The line is about protecting a person: 「あいつの盾」, his shield. It reads as the crew taking up their roles around their captain, not as a ritual for a god.

So the theory has the order backwards. Zoro and Sanji aren't shown making Luffy more like Nika. They are shown making sure Luffy doesn't have to be the legend alone.

What we think is really being set up

OUR READING. The Harley's two faces, hero or destroyer, are the question of the Elbaf arc. Chapter 1197 gives a crew-shaped answer to it:

  • A sword to cut a way through for Luffy.
  • A shield to stop him from being broken on the way.
  • With both, the captain in the middle is free to be what 1192 says he wants to be: just Luffy.

If the world really is about to "change shape" a third time, this is the arc telling us who stands next to Luffy when it does. That is a much smaller claim than a new Nika form, and it is the one the pages support.

  • Sanji's power is settled as Armament only.
  • The next stage of Luffy's power, if one comes, arrives with neither of them there.
