Editorial & Corrections Policy

Last updated 26 October 2026

ABYSS CURRENT covers manga and Japanese pop culture from Japanese-language sources, for readers who cannot read them. That only works if you can tell, line by line, what we checked ourselves, what we are passing on, and what is our own opinion. This page sets out how we do that and what happens when we get something wrong.

Where our information comes from

We weigh sources in this order, and say which one a claim rests on:

  1. The published work itself — the official Japanese release of a chapter (Weekly Shōnen Jump, Shōnen Jump+, MANGA Plus) or an official volume.
  2. Official announcements — publishers, studios, manufacturers, and their official sites and accounts.
  3. Established press — entertainment and trade outlets reporting those announcements.
  4. Community sources — fan wikis, Japanese blogs, forums, Reddit and posts on X. We cite these as evidence that an argument or rumor exists and where it started, never as proof that it is true.

Every article lists its sources at the end, with the publisher and language of each. We link the original wherever one exists.

Article labels

Each article carries one status label at the top, so the kind of piece is clear before you start reading:

OFFICIAL
Confirmed by an official source such as a publisher, studio or manufacturer.
MANGA FACT
Stated in the published manga itself. Canon, not interpretation.
JP THEORY
A fan theory circulating in Japanese-language communities. Speculation, not confirmed information.
RUMOR
Unverified claim from an unofficial source. Treat as unconfirmed until an official announcement.
OUR TAKE
Editorial opinion and analysis by our editorial team.

Evidence levels inside an article

A single article often mixes claims of different strength. Where it matters, we mark the claim itself:

Primary — manga verified
Read directly from the official Japanese release of the chapter named. English wording is our paraphrase of the Japanese unless it is marked as a quotation.
Chapter-referenced
Tied to a specific chapter, but taken from our earlier coverage or from consistent chapter records rather than re-read from the page for this article. We say so instead of presenting it at the same confidence as a verified claim.
Confidence: high / medium / low
Our own judgement of how well a reading is supported, shown next to rankings, comparisons and theory entries.
Theory Radar scores
Theories are scored on separate axes, including evidence out of 10. The score changes when a new chapter supports or undercuts a theory, and the article says what changed.

Rumor checks

A rumor check follows the same steps every time: the claim, where it came from, what official sources say, our verdict, and what would settle it. Verdicts are FALSE, MISLEADING / PARTLY TRUE, UNCONFIRMED or CONFIRMED. When a rumor is settled, we update the page rather than publish a new one.

Spoilers, leaks and translations

We report a chapter only once it is officially released. We do not publish, link to or summarise leaks, raw scans or unofficial translations, and we do not report a leak as a rumor to get around that.

Chapter reports are marked as containing spoilers. We quote short lines of the original Japanese where the exact wording matters, followed by our own English paraphrase. We do not publish full translations, scripts or page scans.

Images

Article artwork and diagrams credited to ABYSS CURRENT are made by us, not copied from the manga. Official press material is credited to its rights holder. Where the point is what someone else published, we embed the original — on its own player or post — rather than copying a still from it. More in About.

Corrections

If we get a fact wrong, we fix it in the article as soon as we know. A correction that changes what the article says is noted in the piece itself, with the date and what was wrong — for example, “Correction, 28 September 2026: an earlier version of this report called …” — and the article's Updated date changes. Spelling and formatting fixes are made without a note.

When a new chapter overturns an analysis, that is not a correction but an update: we revise the piece, say what the new chapter showed, and keep the reasoning that led to the earlier reading visible where it is useful. We do not quietly delete predictions that did not pan out.

To report an error, email hello@abysscurrent.com or message us on X, with the article and the passage. We read every report.

Independence

ABYSS CURRENT is independent and is not affiliated with Shueisha, the creators, or any studio, publisher or brand we cover. No one pays to appear in an article or to change a verdict, and we do not publish sponsored content. If the site carries advertising or affiliate links, they are labelled as such and play no part in what we write.
