THEORY RADAR — post-1195 edition. This edition takes three questions Japanese-language readers raised from chapter 1194 and checks each against the page.
What this is not: a prediction of who wins. Scores rate the evidence, not the odds — the rubric is in our first Radar edition.
Evidence layers. Chapters 1194 and 1195 are PRIMARY — MANGA VERIFIED, read directly on Shonen Jump+. Earlier chapters are CHAPTER-REFERENCED. Japanese fan readings are quoted as readings, with their sources.

A — Is Omen the opposite of "oneself"?
ABYSS CURRENT RADAR
1194 sets a power given from outside (Omen) against a power that comes from the self (Conqueror's Haki)
The Japanese reading. After 1194, Japanese readers put two lines from the same chapter side by side:
- Sommers' line. 「恐れるな "魔気"は それに対をなす力!!!」 — don't be afraid — Omen is the power that stands as its counterpart.
- Mihawk's lesson. 「覚えておけ… "覇王色"とは」「弱者が立っていられぬ程の」「"己"だ」 — remember: Conqueror's Haki is "oneself", strong enough that the weak cannot stand.
Their reading:
- Omen is power the Knights receive from Imu — from outside.
- Conqueror's Haki, per Mihawk, comes from the self.
- So: the chapter sets borrowed power against one's own.
Japanese blog analysis and posts on X made the case independently. One added a mirror image: Imu lending Omen to his Knights, the way Joy Boy left his Conqueror's Haki stored in Emet.
What the page fixes (PRIMARY):
- Both lines are in chapter 1194, around the same fight.
- Sommers' bubble has no tail; by sequence it reads as his.
- Mihawk's three lines run across the last page, in that order.
What our record adds (CHAPTER-REFERENCED):
- Omen is used as Imu's power through the Elbaf arc.
- The power-up Sommers called "Super Sommers" is recorded as granted by Imu.
The full record is in what is Omen?
What pushes back:
- For Imu, Omen is his own power. "From outside" only describes the Knights' side of it.
- "Counterpart" (対をなす) says the two form a pair. It does not say they differ in where they come from.
- The Emet mirror needs care. Our record has Joy Boy's stored Haki reverting the Five Elders' transformations at Egghead. One Japanese source states it more strongly, as cancelling their immortality. We keep the mirror as a second-stage inference and don't count it as a signal.
Does 1195 move it? Not directly. Sommers fights wreathed in black flame and Killingham in a black aura, but nothing on the page names either as Omen.
Score: 5/10. Two real lines and three independent details. The contrast itself is still a reading.
B — Mihawk's definition: a description, not a test
The definition, read literally. Japanese readers have been applying Mihawk's wording — 「弱者が立っていられぬ程の"己"」 — as a test for who has Conqueror's Haki.
Why that breaks. Read as a test, it over-includes. Any character drawn with an overwhelming presence passes it, comic scenes included.
What the page supports. Mihawk says these lines in dialogue, in a flashback; the narration never adopts them as a rule. They describe what Conqueror's Haki is like. They don't decide who has it.
Unscored. There is no locatable example to score, and a number with nothing behind it would mean nothing. The full reading of Mihawk's lines is in our Mihawk piece.
C — What 1194–1195 still don't explain
A watch list, not a theory, so no score. Each item has what the page shows and what would settle it.
1. What Zoro's strike did.
- Page (1195):
- Zoro grins: 「掴んだ…!!!」 — I've got it.
- Sommers screams that his life is over.
- A massive black-lightning strike lands; his scream fades.
- The chapter cuts away.
- Not shown: the heart, Sommers' fate, and anyone naming the lightning as Conqueror's Haki.
- Settles it: the next Zoro chapter. Full record in does Zoro have Conqueror's Haki?
2. What Zoro understands.
- 1194: he knows the power by its effect — 「ルフィが…大勢を一気に倒すアレだろう?」 — and asks how to coat a blade with it. That fits "knows it, can't call it up", not "doesn't know it".
- 1195: he says he has got it.
- Settles it: whether he does it again, on purpose.
3. 牙竜 and Omen.
- Page (1194): a dragon-headed black mass appears in the same panel as the Omen line, with the technique call 「牙竜(キリュウ)」.
- Open: whether 牙竜 is Omen itself or a technique that uses it.
4. The ship and the children.
- Page (1194): Sommers says he can't carry the children if the ship breaks further.
- 1195: Killingham still believes Sommers is waiting at the port, while fighters pull giant children from a thorn trap in the west village.
- Settles it: where that ship ends up.
5. Why only Loki knows the finishing condition.
- The objection. One Japanese critique asked: if Shanks had cut Sommers up before, why does the heart condition only appear now?
- The premise is wrong. Chapter 1170 (CHAPTER-REFERENCED; several summaries agree) has Gaban, not Shanks, cutting up and sending back the Knights who came for the young Shanks. Shanks only replies that "someone called Sommers" said as much.
- What each chapter says:
- 1170 (Gaban): Conqueror's Haki in an attack makes the wounds hurt, slows recovery badly, and repeated hits can take a Knight out of the fight.
- 1193 (Loki): for Sommers specifically, the steel heart pierced by a Conqueror-coated blade finishes him.
- So there is no contradiction. An incapacitation rule and a finishing condition are different claims.
- Still open: why Loki knows the second one when Gaban's account doesn't include it.
- On our own record: our site had made the same Shanks/Gaban misattribution, and corrected it on 5 October.
What we left out
- Fight predictions. Who wins 1196 isn't a question 1194 raised.
- "Zoro has mastered Conqueror's Haki." English-language previews built on that premise. The pages don't support it: 1194 ends on a stance, and 1195 shows a strike without a result.
- Single-source examples. The Japanese examples used to test Mihawk's definition couldn't be pinned to a chapter, so they're out.
