There is no announced HUNTER×HUNTER chapter 421 release date. No.420「遭遇」ran in Weekly Shonen Jump 2026 issue 41, on sale 7 September 2026, and closed with a notice saying the next instalment will be announced in the magazine once it is decided. That is the official position, and nothing published since changes it.
What makes this break different from the last three is what sits behind it. Yoshihiro Togashi's official account has reported every chapter from No.421 to No.427 as a finished manuscript — seven chapters past the one that just ran, each announced separately between 27 May and 1 September 2026.
Is HUNTER×HUNTER on hiatus again?
In the sense most people mean it, yes: the series has stopped again after a run of chapters, with no date for the next one.
It is worth being precise about the word. HUNTER×HUNTER has not run as an ordinary weekly serial for years, and the magazine does not present the current absence as a weekly title going on break. What accompanied chapter 420 was a notice that the next publication will be announced once it is decided — that is the official status, and it is narrower than a declared hiatus.
The practical difference matters. A declared hiatus would imply someone has decided how long it runs and said so. What the notice actually communicates is that the decision has not been announced.
When will chapter 421 release?
Unknown, and not currently knowable from outside.
No date has been published by Shueisha, by Weekly Shonen Jump, or by Togashi. Any specific date you see — a month, a quarter, a "confirmed" return — is not coming from an official source. The trackers that cover this list chapter 421 as to be confirmed, which is the accurate entry.
What we can do instead is lay out the two things that actually bear on it: how far the work has got, and how long the last three gaps ran.
How far ahead is Togashi?
Considerably further than "hiatus" on its own suggests, and the account has been specific about it.
Chapters 421 to 427 have each been reported as 原稿完成 — manuscript complete — individually. These are seven separate posts, not one summary:
| Chapter | Reported manuscript complete |
|---|---|
| No.421 | 27 May 2026 |
| No.422 | 1 July 2026 |
| No.423 | 8 July 2026 |
| No.424 | 9 August 2026 |
| No.425 | 11 August 2026 |
| No.426 | 25 August 2026 |
| No.427 | 1 September 2026 |
So seven finished chapters already exist past the one that just ran. That is the single most useful fact on this page, and it is why "the series has stopped" and "there is nothing ready" are not the same statement.
Past 427, the account reports individual production tasks rather than finished chapters, and those need reading carefully:
- No.428 — background specification sheet completed (4 July 2026)
- No.429 — no public report
- No.430 — character inking completed (8 April 2026); background specification sheet completed (30 August 2026)
- No.431 — character inking completed (14 June 2026)
- No.432 — character inking completed (11 July 2026)
- No.433 — character inking started (11 July 2026)
A chapter appearing twice at different stages, as 430 does, is not progress running backwards — inking and background specification are separate jobs on the same chapter, reported as each is finished. What matters is the line none of 428–433 has crossed: not one of them has been reported as a completed manuscript.
If the next run were another ten chapters, seven — 421 through 427 — are already reported complete, while later chapters have received varying production-stage updates. That is a conditional, not a forecast.
The other thing that has to be said plainly: a completed manuscript is not a publication date. Togashi has said as much himself — the same April post that reported No.430's inking also asked readers to wait for the Jump editorial department's announcement regarding publication timing from chapter 420 onward. Finished pages sit with the editorial department until a run is scheduled, and nothing public explains how Shueisha decides when to start one.
The recent ten-chapter pattern
The last three returns have all done the same thing: ten chapters, then stop.
- 391–400 — 24 October to 26 December 2022
- 401–410 — 7 October to 9 December 2024
- 411–420 — 29 June to 7 September 2026
Ten each time, run in consecutive weekly instalments apart from Jump's own combined issues. The 411–420 block spanned ten weeks and included the magazine's summer break, which is why 2026 issues 37 and 38 were combined.
This is the single most quoted pattern in the fandom, and it is real. But three occurrences is a pattern, not a rule, and no one at Shueisha has stated that runs are planned in tens. It tells you what has happened, and it happens to be consistent with 420 being a stopping point — which it was.
HUNTER×HUNTER's recent hiatus history
Every date below is the Japanese Weekly Shonen Jump on-sale date, matching the 7 September 2026 date used for chapter 420 at the top of this page. The English simulpub dates run one day earlier; mixing the two would distort the gaps, so we do not.
| Run | Ran | Chapters | Gap to the next chapter |
|---|---|---|---|
| 381–390 | ended 26 Nov 2018 | 10 | 1,428 days — about 3 years 11 months |
| 391–400 | 24 Oct – 26 Dec 2022 | 10 | 651 days — about 1 year 9 months |
| 401–410 | 7 Oct – 9 Dec 2024 | 10 | 567 days — about 1 year 7 months |
| 411–420 | 29 Jun – 7 Sep 2026 | 10 | TBD — not announced |
That last column is worth stating carefully. The three most recent observed gaps each came out shorter than the one before: 1,428 days, then 651, then 567. That is what the record shows.
It is not a formula, and it is not a trend we would extend. Three observations with no stated mechanism behind them cannot produce a fourth, and nothing published says the gaps are being deliberately shortened. We are not subtracting a few weeks from 567 and calling it a prediction.
