Where the claim comes from
The specific "October 2026" version traces to a post on X dated 26 March 2025:
- The account: an unofficial account presenting itself as One Piece news.
- The claim: Oda had "just officially announced on Japanese television" that the series would end in October 2026.
The post names no programme, no date and no clip of the announcement, and we could not find one. Nothing matching it appears on the One Piece official site, in Weekly Shonen Jump, or in Japanese entertainment-news coverage of Oda, which reports his public comments closely.
Since then, the claim has been reposted and turned into short videos. Repetition is what makes it look established.
Why it sounds believable
Because Oda really has talked about the ending — just never with a date like this.
- 2019. ORICON ran a "five years to go" countdown headline, from an interview with the series' editor. Five years from 2019 was 2024, and the series did not end then.
- 2021. At volume 100, Oda's comment was that the story is in its final phase (物語は終盤です).
- The Final Saga is under way. Readers know the end is coming, which makes any specific date easy to believe.
"The story is near its end" is an official position. "It ends in October 2026" is not. The rumor fuses the two.
