Garp's Strongest Attack: Galaxy Impact vs Infinitum Explosion

Garp has four named attacks. Galaxy Impact has the biggest radius, but the only one that ever finished a top-tier opponent is Infinitum Explosion — and Roger threw a technique into the same target at the same moment. Ranked with a chapter behind every line.

Quick answer

The biggest is Galaxy Impact. It is the largest thing Garp has ever thrown — advanced Armament Haki plus Conqueror's Haki, a shockwave across an enormous radius that caught the Blackbeard Pirates crew-wide (ch. 1080). If the question is scale, it is not close.

The best result belongs to Infinitum Explosion. It is the only Garp technique that has ever finished a top-tier opponent: Rocks D. Xebec, at God Valley, thrown by prime Garp with both fists at "critical mass" (ch. 1165).

But it is not a clean solo record, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Roger's Hi-no-Kagutsuchi no Eisu struck the same target in the same moment, and Rocks had already been turned into a demon by Imu and worn down. Nothing on the page separates whose attack did what.

So: Galaxy Impact is the biggest. That does not necessarily make it the strongest — and the technique with the better claim is one Garp did not throw alone.

Current through chapter 1191 (Weekly Shonen Jump issue 39, on sale 24 August 2026). No leaks, no raw scans. Spoilers for Hachinosu and the God Valley flashback follow.

The four attacks

Attack Japanese Chapter Haki What it actually did
Galaxy Impact 拳骨衝突 ch. 1080 Advanced Armament + Conqueror's Enormous radius, whole crew at once. No named opponent downed
Blue Hole 海底落下 ch. 1081 Armament + Conqueror's Grabbed Kuzan by the face, drove him down, left a deep hole
Galaxy Divide 拳骨唐竹割 ch. 1088 Armament + Conqueror's Vertical fissure through Avalo Pizarro and the island structure
Infinitum Explosion 無限拳骨 ch. 1165 Both fists, Armament + Conqueror's at "critical mass" Finished Rocks D. Xebec — jointly with Roger
Garp's four named attacks sorted into four different questions. Strongest shown named technique: Infinitum Explosion, chapter 1165, a joint finish with Roger. Best solo attack on the strongest individual opponent: Blue Hole, chapter 1081, landed on Kuzan. Largest area of effect: Galaxy Impact, chapter 1080. Most concentrated destruction: Galaxy Divide, chapter 1088.
Four attacks, four different questions. Only one of them is "which is biggest", and that is the question people usually answer. Diagram: ABYSS CURRENT · from the published chapters through 1191

How we ranked them, and how far we could check it

Three source layers, the same as the rest of this series.

OFFICIAL PRIMARY VERIFIED is material we opened and read ourselves. Here that is the official ONE PIECE.com entry for Garp, which is the source of his Cross Guild bounty of roughly 3,000,000,000 Berry, his rank — still Vice Admiral, never Admiral — and the epithet 海軍の英雄, Hero of the Marines.

CHAPTER-REFERENCED is a claim traced to a specific chapter and page whose panel we have not read. Every technique description below sits in this layer. Volumes 107 and 114 are outside the free MANGA Plus window, so the chapter numbers here are locators taken from chapter-referenced secondary entries, not panels we checked. That is a real step below a reading, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.

SECONDARY / SCALING is fan scaling, including ours. It decides nothing.

Traced to a chapter

  • Galaxy Impact: enormous radius, whole crew (ch. 1080)
  • Blue Hole: grabs Kuzan's face, slams him down (ch. 1081)
  • Galaxy Divide: vertical fissure through Pizarro (ch. 1088)
  • Infinitum Explosion finished Rocks, with Roger (ch. 1165)
  • Rocks was demon-amplified by Imu's Domi Reversi (ch. 1165)

Asserted without one

  • "Galaxy Impact is his strongest" — biggest is not strongest
  • "Garp beat Rocks" — the credit is in-universe, not the panel
  • "Infinitum Explosion is his strongest solo move" — Roger fired too
  • "Hachinosu Garp shows his ceiling" — he is 78 and outnumbered
  • Any number putting one attack above another

Two rules specific to this ranking.

Biggest is a different question from strongest. Area of effect, output against one target, and result achieved are three separate measurements. Most rankings collapse them, which is how Galaxy Impact ends up first by default.

A shared finish is not a solo feat. Where two characters land techniques on the same target in the same moment, the outcome belongs to both. We will say what the result was and refuse to split it.

1. Galaxy Impact — the biggest, and the one with no result

拳骨衝突, "Fist Collision". Garp infuses his fist with advanced Armament Haki and Conqueror's Haki and delivers a shockwave punch across an enormous radius, devastating everything in range. It is his opening move on Hachinosu and it hits the Blackbeard Pirates crew-wide (ch. 1080, p. 16–17).

It is genuinely the largest thing in his arsenal, and the panel is the most spectacular of the four. It is also the reason this article exists, because scale is doing all the work in the popular answer.

Galaxy Impact — why people call it the strongest

BIGGEST

  • The largest radius of anything Garp has thrown
  • Advanced Armament plus Conqueror's Haki
  • Hit the Blackbeard Pirates crew-wide at once
  • The most visually spectacular panel of the four

Why we do not

≠ STRONGEST

  • It did not put down a single named opponent
  • Area of effect is a different axis from output on one target
  • Thrown by a 78-year-old, which is a floor and not a ceiling
  • "Devastating anything in range" is the description, not a result

Here is what it does not have: a name attached to a defeat. Nobody of consequence goes down to it. The description that survives into every reference is "devastating anything in its range" — which is a description of the effect, not of an outcome. Eight chapters later the men who were standing in that radius beat him.

That is not a knock on the technique. It is a statement about what we can and cannot conclude from it.

2. Blue Hole — the best thing he has landed alone

海底落下, "Seafloor Falldown". Garp hardens a hand with Armament Haki, infuses it with Conqueror's, grabs his opponent by the face and slams them downward hard enough to open a deep hole in the ground as they fall (ch. 1081, p. 14–15).

The reason this matters is the target. He used it on Kuzan — his own former student, a former Marine Admiral, and one of the strongest individuals Garp has been shown fighting on-panel. Of the three Hachinosu techniques, this is the only one aimed at a top-tier person rather than at a crowd or a structure.

It also did not end the fight. Kuzan keeps going, and Garp fights on through the rest of the crew. So this is the best solo showing against a named individual, and it is still short of a finish — and it is Kuzan, the man Garp put through the ground here, who lands the decisive blow on him seven chapters later.

3. Galaxy Divide — the narrow one

拳骨唐竹割, "Fist Bamboo Splitter", after karatake wari, the downward vertical cut in kenjutsu. Armament plus Conqueror's, delivered as a shockwave punch that opens a vertical fissure through its target — used on Avalo Pizarro and the Hachinosu skull-face structure he was controlling (ch. 1088, p. 10–11).

Where Galaxy Impact spreads, this concentrates. It is the cleanest demonstration that Garp can put Conqueror's-infused force through a single line rather than across a field, and he threw it after Shiryu had run him through while protecting Koby — crossing the island to land it.

It ranks third because a structural fissure, however impressive, is a smaller claim than putting a former Admiral into the ground.

4. Infinitum Explosion — the best result, and the one he shared

無限拳骨, "Infinite Fist". Garp hardens both fists with Armament Haki and infuses them with Conqueror's Haki at what our source renders as "critical mass", rotates his left arm, and unleashes a barrage of flaming punches (ch. 1165, p. 15–17).

It landed on Rocks D. Xebec — Roger's most formidable rival, and the strongest opponent any Garp technique has ever been aimed at. Rocks went down. On the axis of what did it achieve, nothing else Garp has is in the same conversation.

Infinitum Explosion — what it achieved

BEST RESULT

  • The only Garp technique that finished a top-tier opponent
  • Both fists, Armament and Conqueror's at "critical mass"
  • Thrown by prime Garp, not the Hachinosu version
  • Landed on Rocks D. Xebec, Roger's most formidable rival

Why it is not a clean solo record

SHARED

  • Roger hit the same target with the same "critical mass" escalation
  • Rocks had been demon-amplified by Imu, then worn down
  • Nothing separates whose technique did what
  • So it settles Garp's best result, not his solo ceiling

Three things stop it from settling the question.

Roger fired into the same target, with the same escalation. The finish is Infinitum Explosion alongside Roger's Hi-no-Kagutsuchi no Eisu (火之迦具土 慧士; VIZ: "God of Fire Ace") — and the description of Roger's technique is word-for-word the shape of Garp's: Armament and Conqueror's Haki infused at "critical mass", weapon spinning, then a series of strikes. Two men reaching the same peak in the same panel, into the same target. The manga does not apportion the damage, and neither will we.

The target had been altered, in both directions. Imu had turned Rocks into a demon with "Domi Reversi", which amplified his strength greatly — so this is a harder opponent than baseline Rocks, not an easier one. He had also been fought down to that point rather than met fresh. Both facts matter and they push opposite ways.

The credit in the story is not the panel. The defeat of the Rocks Pirates was entirely credited to Garp, which is where "Hero of the Marines" comes from. That is an in-universe attribution — a piece of World Government record-keeping, and the sort of thing this arc has been busy showing to be unreliable. It is not evidence about a technique.

ABYSS CURRENT RADAR

Infinitum Explosion is Garp's strongest attack

6/10
Evidence7/10The only one of the four with a result against a top-tier opponent: it was part of the joint finishing attack that defeated Rocks D. Xebec, ch. 1165, thrown by prime Garp alongside Roger's Hi-no-Kagutsuchi no Eisu. That is the best outcome any Garp technique has been part of.
Independent signals5/10Much less discussed, because it was published far later than the Hachinosu attacks despite being set 38 years earlier.
Assumption loadMEDIUMRequires accepting a shared finish as evidence about one participant's technique.
ContradictionsHIGHRoger's Hi-no-Kagutsuchi no Eisu struck the same target in the same moment, and Rocks had been demon-amplified by Imu and worn down first. Nothing on the page separates the contributions.

The era problem, which is the real reason this is hard

Two columns comparing prime Garp at God Valley, 38 years ago, published in chapter 1165, against Hachinosu Garp in the present day, published earlier in chapters 1080 to 1088 at the age of 78. Prime Garp yields Infinitum Explosion; Hachinosu Garp yields Galaxy Impact, Blue Hole and Galaxy Divide.
The publication order is inverted. We met old Garp's arsenal first and prime Garp's second, which is why the comparison keeps going wrong. Diagram: ABYSS CURRENT
  1. Ch. 1080Galaxy ImpactGarp lands on Hachinosu and opens with the biggest thing he has: a Conqueror's-infused shockwave punch across an enormous radius, catching the Blackbeard Pirates crew-wide. Nobody named goes down.
  2. Ch. 1081Blue HoleAgainst Kuzan — his own former student, a former Admiral. He hardens a hand, grabs Kuzan by the face and drives him straight down, leaving a hole in the island. Of the three Hachinosu techniques, this is the only one aimed at a top-tier individual rather than a crowd or a structure.
  3. Ch. 1088Galaxy Divide, then defeatRun through by Shiryu while protecting Koby, Garp still crosses the island and splits Avalo Pizarro with a vertical fissure. Once the rescue succeeds, Kuzan impales him with an ice blade as the other Blackbeard Pirates close in and the ice spreads over him. The next day he is reported missing; ch. 1126 confirms he is held on Hachinosu.
  4. Ch. 1165Infinitum ExplosionBoth fists at "critical mass", left arm rotating, a barrage of flaming punches into Rocks D. Xebec — who Imu had turned into a demon. Roger's Hi-no-Kagutsuchi no Eisu, described with the same "critical mass" wording, lands in the same moment. Rocks falls.

Three of these four attacks belong to a 78-year-old Garp, fighting an entire Emperor's crew alone, run through with a sword by Shiryu partway through, and finally impaled and frozen by Kuzan in chapter 1088 while the rest of the crew closed in — reported missing the next day, and confirmed imprisoned on Hachinosu by chapter 1126.

One of them belongs to prime Garp, 38 years earlier, standing beside the Pirate King.

And the manga published them in the wrong order. We met the old man's arsenal first, in volume 107, and only reached prime Garp's in volume 114 — which is why the Hachinosu techniques feel like the definitive set and the God Valley one feels like a footnote. It is the other way round.

The same flashback shows young Garp taking a combined Zeus and Prometheus attack from Linlin and walking away unhurt, having coated himself in Conqueror's Haki (ch. 1161). Whatever the Hachinosu numbers are, they are not that man's numbers.

There is no multiplier between the two columns, and we are not going to invent one. What we can say is that the three attacks people rank Garp by are a floor, not a ceiling.

Frequently asked

What is Garp's strongest attack? By result, Infinitum Explosion — it was part of the joint finishing attack that defeated Rocks D. Xebec, thrown alongside Roger's. By size, Galaxy Impact. By best solo showing against a named opponent, Blue Hole on Kuzan. Those are three different questions and the honest answer names which one you are asking.

Is Galaxy Impact Garp's strongest attack? It is his biggest. It has never put down a named opponent, and it was thrown by a 78-year-old who lost the fight eight chapters later. Biggest and strongest are not the same measurement.

Did Garp beat Rocks D. Xebec? He was part of it. The finish is his Infinitum Explosion together with Roger's Hi-no-Kagutsuchi no Eisu, against a Rocks that Imu had turned into a demon. The in-universe credit went entirely to Garp, which is how he became Hero of the Marines — but the credit and the panel are not the same thing.

What is Garp's strongest solo attack? Unresolved. The technique with the best result is the one he shared; the best thing he has landed alone is Blue Hole, on Kuzan, and it did not end that fight.

How strong is Galaxy Impact compared to Infinitum Explosion? No number exists for this and we are not going to publish one. Galaxy Impact covers more ground; Infinitum Explosion is the only one with a kill attached, and it is from the era Galaxy Impact is not from.

Why is Garp only a Vice Admiral? ONE PIECE.com still lists him as 中将 — Vice Admiral. He was offered Admiral repeatedly and refused every time. His Cross Guild bounty is about 3,000,000,000 Berry, the same as an Admiral's.

What could change this ranking

  • A prime-era solo finish. The gap in the record is a technique thrown by young Garp with nobody else attacking. One panel of that reorders everything below the top line.
  • Any splitting of the Rocks finish. If a chapter or an SBS indicates whose attack did the decisive damage, Infinitum Explosion either becomes a clean first or drops considerably.
  • Galaxy Impact landing on somebody. It has never had a named victim. Give it one and the biggest attack becomes the strongest by the same measure everyone already uses.
  • A fifth named technique. Garp is imprisoned on Hachinosu, not dead, and the God Valley flashback is still running.

Our call

Galaxy Impact is the answer people give because it is the answer the panels shout. It is the widest, loudest, most obviously enormous thing Garp does, and it arrived first.

But the question was which attack is strongest, and the only one of the four with a top-tier opponent lying at the end of it is the one Garp threw with the Pirate King standing next to him, into a man a god had just turned into a demon. That is a spectacular fact about Garp and a poor basis for a solo ranking, and both halves of that sentence are true at once.

So we will name the biggest, name the best result, name the best thing he has landed alone — and leave the single-word answer alone until the manga gives us a prime-era Garp finishing something by himself.
